Black Women Have Bad Hair

Girls are taught at a young age by the media and society that black women should be ashamed of how they were born. Taught that they cannot leave the house without their hair in a perm, weave, or wig to “fix” their “bad hair problem.” I never understood how something could be a problem when you were born with it. People think it’s only unfashionable because of how the media only portrays styles for curly and straight hair but barely anything to do with coarse REAL thick hair like sheep’s wool. They’re always called “funky” or “outdated” afros but never really in the same light as the lustrous, sleek hair shown in shampoo and conditioner commercials. Why not? Women are beautiful how they are born. While modifications are cool as add-ons, they should not be the definition of your beauty.
